Admissions Requirements

Tribeca Flashpoint believes in making a holistic assessment of a prospective student’s ability to succeed at the college and in the careers to which they aspire. Therefore each application is reviewed and considered individually when determining acceptance. For the student not meeting the published criteria, an appeals process exists through which additional factors may be considered.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS + REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission into our associate or bachelor’s degree programs by the Admissions Committee, students are asked to submit the following:

  1. Completed admissions application, including an essay
  2. Official high school transcript
  3. Non-refundable $35 application fee ($50 for international students).

Optional Items:

  • If a student is transferring from another postsecondary institution and wishes to receive transfer credit, he or she may also submit transcripts from a previously attended institution(s).
  • Submission of a work portfolio. Students may also submit a digital version of their portfolio to admissions@tribecaflashpoint.edu after completing the Admissions Application.
  • ACT, SAT or Wonderlic test score
  • Signed letter of recommendation
  • A completed interview with a TFC representative

ADMISSIONS PROCESS + REQUIREMENTS

ADMISSIONS APPLICATION

All applicants are asked to submit a completed admissions application which includes general information about the student, past educational experience, and choice of essay.

Applicant decisions and Scholarship awards are communicated within 2-3 weeks of receipt of all materials.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

Applicants are asked to submit an official high school transcript as part of their application. Students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of less than 2.0 are encouraged to address the circumstances that lead to a CGPA of less than 2.0 and their plan for maintaining a CGPA of 2.0 or greater, if admitted to the college.

High school applicants can have the school submit their most recent or final transcript to Tribeca Flashpoint College Admissions. High school transcripts can be submitted through Parchment, by e-mail, or by mail.

GED applicants can submit an official copy of the GED test results.

Home school applicants can send transcripts via a state-recognized home school.

COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT

Tribeca Flashpoint College strives to award the maximum amount of transfer credits earned by a student from previously attended accredited institution(s). Transfer applicants can send official transcripts from any college or university previously attended to the Registrar as described under High School Transcript above. If you’re planning to transfer to Tribeca Flashpoint College, consult with your academic advisor early in your academic career to obtain specific information on transferring general education and major course credits.

TEST SCORES

Tribeca Flashpoint College recommends, but does not require, applicants to complete a general aptitude test. ACT, SAT, or Wonderlic scores are all acceptable.

ACT or SAT Scores:

Score reports should be requested through the testing agency. Request your ACT or SAT score report with Tribeca Flashpoint College’s ACT School Code (6407) or SAT School Code (7300).

Wonderlic Score:

The Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test, which is a short aptitude test used to assess ability for learning and problem-solving. Wonderlic testing may be completed online at www.wonderlic.com. Contact your admissions representative for more details.

SIGNED LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION OR TFC REPRESENTATIVE MEETING

Applicants have the option to submit one letter of recommendation or meet with an authorized TFC representative to complete the application, if they so desire.

A letter of recommendation should be completed by a non-family member such as a teacher, counselor, advisor, employer, or other individual who can discuss your ability to succeed at Tribeca Flashpoint College. Letters of recommendation can be submitted as part of the application, by e-mail, or traditional mail.

APPLICATION FEE

There is a nonrefundable $35 charge for submitting an application ($50 for international students). You will be able to submit your payment after the application has been completed.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

In addition to the criteria listed above, international students are asked to:

1. Provide an evaluation of high school and/or college transcripts from NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) or other accredited evaluation company which demonstrates equivalency of high school graduation with a GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0.

2. Complete one of the following English language proficiency test*: TOEFL (minimum: 80 internet, 550 paper, 213 computer), IELTS (minimum: 6.5), or iTEP (minimum: 4.5).

a. The English proficiency test requirements may be waived for any applicant

that meets one of the following:

i. Graduated from a high school where the majority of classes are taught in English and/or approved/recognized by an American or British Institution

ii. Born and raised in a country whose first language is English; or

iii. Achieved a certificate of completion from a recognized Language Center. Contact admissions for a list of certificates accepted from other institutions.

PLACEMENT TEST

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short-form measure of basic verbal and quantitative skills that is designed to assess skills in order to determine correct placement in English and Math course requirements at Tribeca Flashpoint College.

This is a different exam from the Wonderlic Cognitive Ability Test.
This is a mandatory test that needs to be completed by all prospective students prior to the 1st day of class regardless of incoming transfer credit. Failure to complete this requirement may result in the need to take additional classes in order to complete your degree requirements.
There are two sections to the test: Verbal and Quantitative
The scoring of the exam is as follows:

Verbal Section

If you score 265 or higher, you will be placed into ENG101, Composition I.
If you score Quantitative Section

If you score 265 or higher, you will be placed into MTH101, General Math.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Tribeca Flashpoint College has a rolling admissions policy – applications are reviewed as the College receives them. There are deadlines that relate to specific scholarships. See the SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS section for detail and deadlines. Application decisions are communicated within 2-3 weeks of receipt of all materials.

APPEALS PROCESS

Our Admissions Committee reviews all completed applications for admission to the college.

Appeals Process: Students who are denied admission to TFC may appeal the decision by submitting a letter to the attention of the Admissions Committee, requesting that they be re-considered for admission and describing why they believe they can succeed academically and contribute meaningfully to the Tribeca Flashpoint College community. The letter should be e-mailed to the Admissions Department who will then forward it to the Admission Committee for review and consideration.

The Admissions Committee is comprised of qualified representation from across college departments.
